Youth Competition typically take place in two-year age divisions.  These age divisions provide young athletes the opportunity to compete with other athletes of similar ability.  The age divisions for competition year 2008 are as follows:

     Sub Bantam         2000+   
     Bantam               1998+
     Midget                 1996-1997
     Youth                  1994-1995
     Intermediate        1992-1993
     Young                 1990-1991*

*Athletes who are still 18 through the final day of the USATF National Jr Olympic Track & Field Championships are eligible to compete in the Young Men's and Young Women's divisions through that meet.  This extended eligibility does not apply to cross country events.

Developmental track & field meets generally are hosted by Association Track Clubs beginning in April of each year and for Cross Country beginning in September.  (Click here for the current developmental meet brochure or  for the   Youth calendar -- Click here.

USATF requires a Criminal Background Check for each coach or volunteer that has direct contact with our youth athletes. USATF Membership is required for the NW Youth Classic Meet and Oregon Association Jr Olympic Meets.

Entry Process

• Online entry is the only method of entry for youth athletes. No other form of entry will be accepted. (Masters and Open Athletes must send in the entry forms provided through the Open and Masters web pages.)
• A 2008 USATF membership is required to enter (please join online if you are not a member).
• To enter online, you will be required to provide your 2008 USATF membership number and password (click here to retrieve your password if you don't know it).
• Athletes will receive a confirmation page at the end of the entry process; please print a copy of the entry confirmation as proof of entry.
• A Help Line is available for those who need help with the entry process. For assistance call 503-581-7424 during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. PT.
• For entries close to the deadlines: although we will make every reasonable effort, we cannot guarantee responses to requests for passwords. Please enter early!
