| Race Walking News & Notes - First EditionIn an effort to better communicate with the Race Walking community, USATF will be sending out periodic e-mails to its members with news and updates on race walking. You are receiving the first edition of Fast Forward Express - Race Walking because you have race walking indicated in your USATF member profile. Entries are now being accepted for the USA Team Trials - Pan American Cup in Palmetto Bay, Florida, on Saturday, March 17th. On-time (on or before March 9) entry fee is $20. Late entry (prior to March 11, 11:59 pm ET) is $70. No day of meet entry. We should be getting a lot more information about the Pan Am RW cup itself soon. Please note that the location has been changed from Rio de Janerio to a city some 1000 kilometers further south. The new location is Balneário Camboriú in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The weather should be much more favorable there for long distance competitions. The dates of the competition remain the same - April 21st and 22nd, 2007. The times for the races are listed below: Saturday, April 21st: 13:45 - Men's 20 km 15:30 - Women's 20 km 17:30 - Junior Men's 10 km Sunday, April 22nd: 6:00 - Men's 50 km 10:30 - Junior Women's 10 km Team Size Change - Information received recently from Brazil indicates that the official team size for all countries will be 4 for the men's 50k and 4 men and 4 women for both 20 km races. Junior team sizes will remain 3 each for both the junior men and junior women. CW Post, an NCAA division II affiliated institution in Long Island NY, honored two of America's top race walkers at the half time of their Basketball game with St. Thomas Aquinas College. Maria Mitcha received a commemorative CW Post ring in honor of her past achievements as USATF Junior Champion. Jenna Monahan , a senior at Sachem East H.S., in Holbrook, NY, was awarded the NYSPHSA Section XI (Suffolk County, LI) MVP award as the best girls indoor track athlete. Jenna is undefeated with two meets left in her indoor track season (3/2/7 at the New York State Champs, and the following week at the New Balance H.S. nationals). Jenna is ranked #1 in the country at 1500m and 1 mile for high school girls. This is the second time in the history of Section XI that a race walker has been so honored by the coaches of indoor track in Suffolk County. The first was Mitcha, also from Sachem H.S. Johnson City, Tennessee, Friday, March 9 The collegiate NAIA Indoor Nationals in the race walk are this Friday, March 9th, at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Start time for the walks is 12 noon. The men's and women's races will be contested separately. The qualifying time for each walker is also listed.
